The Australia Defence Association
(ADA) is not formally affiliated with the Australian Defence
Force (ADF) or the Department of Defence but it strongly
supports the need for a capable and balanced ADF. The ADA also
understands that the country at large, and the Government in
particular, have a responsibility to properly care for the
families of ADF members, especially where defence force
personnel are deployed away from their families in defence of
all Australians.
Any contact with the ADA is on a
strictly confidential basis between the individual concerned and
the Association staff member handling the matter.

Family Welfare
Specific enquiries about welfare or
administrative matters concerning the families of defence force
members are generally best directed to the nearest office of the
Defence Community Organisation (DCO) within the Department of
Defence. Your area telephone directory should provide a local
office-hours contact
number.
Within the DCO, the National Welfare
Co-ordination Centre (NWCC) provides a 24-hour point of contact
for the families of defence force members deployed away from
home on operations
or major exercises. NWCC contacts are:

Defence Families of Australia (DFA), previously known
as the National Consultative Group of Service Families, has
worked to assist the families of defence force members and to
provide a national forum to express their views. The DFA is
sponsored by the Department of Defence and assists in advising
Ministers, senior ADF officers and departmental officials of the effects on families
of government and defence force policies. The DFA website may be
found at
www.dfa.org.au/index.php and the national office may be
contacted on 1800-100-509.
ADF Personnel Matters
Please remember that the Australia
Defence Association is the
national public interest guardian body for defence and wider
national security issues. The ADA is not the Australian Defence
Force's
professional representative body or "trade union". The Association does not
generally become involved in personnel issues unless they are
general rather than individual in their application, and are major
matters of national importance affecting Australia's defence
capabilities or strategic posture as a whole.
