Defending Australia: A policy discussion paper

The Australia Defence Association was established in part to expand the level of community knowledge and understanding of defence issues outside the small official and unofficial defence community.

In this seven-part discussion paper, we set out what we believe to be the core issues to be dealt with by the department and the government in all defence White Papers.

The ADA welcomes debate on these and other issues and encourages readers to express their views to the Association and, especially, to the government.

The paper is in seven parts as follows:

  1. Defining Defence

  2. Australia's Security Interests

  3. A Modern Concept of Defence

  4. The Australian Defence Force

  5. Supporting Defence

  6. Paying for Defence

  7. Ten Principles of Australia's Defence
